WILL THE FRIKAR E-BIKE BE AVAILABLE IN THE UNITED STATES AT SOME POINT?

The Frikar is a quadricycle, not a trike, and this distinction is important when it comes to legal classifications. In many US states, quadricycles like the Frikar are only permitted without electric assist, as some states do not allow e-assist on vehicles with more than two wheels.

We still hope to make the Frikar e-bike available in the US, but current legislation is clear: only two- or three-wheeled vehicles can be classified as e-bikes under "Public Law 109-319" (which you can read here). This means that, under the current law, our vehicle can only be legally ridden on US streets without the battery, powered purely by human effort, as it's classified as a car due to its four wheels.

While we have considered designing a three-wheeled version for the US and Canada, we’ve found that three wheels aren’t optimal for creating a safe, practical, and fast velomobile. With years of experience behind us, we’ve found that four wheels offer the optimal solution for safety, practicality, and performance. This insight is detailed in the founder Per Hassel Sørensen’s master thesis, "Velomobile: Redefined" (Chapter 3).

Another challenge is the lack of harmonization in electric bike laws across US states, counties, and cities. This makes it technically difficult to create an e-bike that is legal in all of North America, including the US, Canada, and Mexico. For more information on e-bike laws, you can go to this Wikipedia page.

We’ve heard that the Frikar e-bike might be legal in some US states, and we’re exploring the possibility of delivering to those areas. We'll continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated.
